Calais will hold its State Primary election and the WCUUSD Bylaws Change election on Monday, August 11, 2026 at the Calais Town Hall, 1662 Kent Hill Rd, from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.
Reminder: During the August Primary election, voters will receive three ballots (one Democrat, one Progressive, and one Republican). Voters will choose one ballot to vote and place it in the envelope labeled “Voted Ballot.” Voters will then place the two remaining unvoted ballots in the envelope labeled “Unvoted Ballots.” All three ballots must be returned to the Town Office for your vote to count.

Early Voting – Requesting a Ballot
- To request that ballots be mailed to you, please contact the Calais Town Office at 456-8720 or townclerk@calaisvermont.gov or go to vote.vermont.gov. You may also request mailed ballots for other members of your household. We will not mail ballots out after July 27, as it is questionable that there will be time for the ballots to be mailed out to the voter and back to the Town Office before election day.
- To pick up ballots in person, please visit the Calais Town Office during regular business hours, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. You may pick up ballots only for yourself. If you request ballots for a family member not present with you, we are required to mail the ballots to the voter’s address in our voter registration records.
- You may also vote in person at the Calais Town Office during regular business hours.
Early Voting – Returning a Ballot
- You may return your ballots by mail using the envelopes provided to you. Please make sure the signature envelopes are signed and sealed!
- You may return your ballots in their signed, sealed envelopes at any time to the secure drop box in the vestibule of the Town Office.
- You may return your ballots in their signed, sealed envelopes to the Town Office staff during regular business hours, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
- You may bring your ballot(s) to the polling place, Calais Town Hall, on August 11, 2026, and vote at that time.
Running for Office
State Representative and Senators:
The window for submitting paperwork to run for state legislator has closed. You may still run as a write-in candidate. Please contact the Town Clerk for more information.
Justices of the Peace
Major and minor party Justice of the Peace candidates are nominated by town caucus or town party committee in order to be placed on the ballot in the General Election (November 3, 2026). The caucus must be held on or before Monday, July 20, 2026. If a town fails to hold a caucus, nominations may be made thereafter by party committee. In either case, the committee chair or secretary must file the statement of nomination with the town clerk no later than 5 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2026 (three days after the Primary). No financial disclosure or consent of candidate form is required for Justice of the Peace nominations that are completed through caucusing.
Independent Justice of the Peace candidates must file a Consent of Candidate form with the town clerk in order to be placed on the ballot in the General Election (November 3, 2026). These consent forms must be filed no later than 5 p.m. Monday, July 20.
